Romeo et Juliette, Gounod. December, 2007. Anna Netrebko as Juliette. Great staging. Loved Netrebko.
Un Ballo in Maschera, Verdi. December 2007. Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Renato. Stephanie Blythe as the fortune teller. Kathleen Kim as Oscar. With this cast, I must have enjoyed the opera.
Manon Lescaut, Puccini. February, 2008. James Levine conductor. Marcello Giordani as the Chevalier des Grieux. Dwayne Croft as Lescaut, Manon's brother. Paul Plishka as an innkeeper. Karita Mattila as Manon Lescaut.
Peter Grimes, Britten. March, 2008. Anthony Dean Griffey as Peter Grimes. Felicity Palmer as Mrs. Sedley. Staging was innovative. Griffey was very good.
Ernani, Verdi. March, 2008. Conducted by Roberto Abbado. Marcello Giordani as Ernani. Sondra Radvanovsky as Elvira. Thomas Hampson as Don Carlo. Wendy White as Giovanna. Keith Miller as Silva's Squire.
La Clemenza di Tito, Mozart. May 2008. Ramon Vargas as Tito, the Emperor of Rome. Susan Graham as Sesto.
La Fille du Regiment, Donizetti. May, 2008. Felicity Palmer as the Marquise. Natalie Dessay as Marie. Alessandro Corbelli as the sergeant. Very light-hearted, touching performance. I remember Dessay and Corbelli as being quite good, great acting and singing.
Rigoletto, Verdi. 2007. Anna Netrebko as Gilda. Rolando Villazon as the Duke. Loved the performance, especially of Netrebko.
Falstaf, Verdi. I never cared for this opera.
